Camp Roberts & Fort Hunter Liggett

There are two major U.S. Army bases located near our Paso Robles hotel. Camp Roberts is home to the California State Military Reserve while Fort Hunter Liggett is the Army Reserve’s largest installation.
Camp Roberts Mission. Camp Roberts has been carefully designed to facilitate the training, mobilization, and security of the National Guard, Army Reserve and Active Component units. Camp Roberts Historical Museum. The Camp Roberts Historical Museum is comprised of two buildings. The Main Museum, which was originally the headquarters for the Red Cross during WWII, and the Museum Annex, a WWII post office. The Main Museum features an array of fascinating exhibits that focus on everything from training at Camp Roberts during several wars, the National Guard, the Women's Army Corps, and Camp Roberts’ celebrities. In addition, you’ll find an extensive patch collection, a small reference library, and a video viewing room. An expansive gift shop boasts everything from books and WWII postcards to posters and DVDs. The Museum Annex is home to a collection of vintage vehicles plus exhibits that highlight the Camp Roberts’ stage shows and radio broadcasts, as well as chapels and a WWII office. California State Military Reserve. Based at Camp Roberts, the California State Military Reserve works with the California National Guard in its Homeland Defense mission in two ways. One, by assisting in training the California National Guard so that the Combatant Commander receives soldiers and airmen who are totally prepared. And two, by helping in the mobilization of this personnel. The California State Military Reserve also provides rapid response teams for the preparation and prevention of all types of threats to California. The California National Guard depends on this volunteer operational force whose members can be called to active duty at any time by the governor. Fort Hunter Liggett Overview. The U.S. Army Reserve’s largest installation and the eighth largest in the entire U.S. Army, Fort Hunter Liggett is one impressive base for our country’s brigade-based forces. Situated on over 165,000 secluded acres that features mountains, valleys, rivers, plains, and forests, Fort Hunter Liggett provides top-tier areas to conduct all kinds of maneuvers.  [Top]
Fort Hunter Liggett Assets. Among the assets at Fort Hunter Liggett are a convoy live fire course, weapons qualification ranges, live fire shoot house, urban assault course, C-17 capable airstrip, 36-pad heliport, and ammunition supply point. What’s more, there’s a Distance Learning Center that comes fully equipped with three dozen computers, over 50 classrooms, and enough beds to accommodate more than 3,500 Soldiers.

Fort Hunter Liggett Tenants. Major tenants at Fort Hunter Liggett include the 3rd Brigade 356th Logistical Support Battalion, the 31st Naval Construction Regiment, the 63rd RRSC Equipment Concentration Site 170, and the 7th Brigade 104th Division, whose focus is institutional training. The 91st Division, which entails training support, will be reorganizing and is expected to relocate to Fort Hunter Liggett from Camp Parks sometime in 2009. On this site, an Armed Forces Reserve Center will be built.
