San Luis Obispo County offers 100 miles of stunning coastline – from the magnificent shores of the northern coast - Ragged Point, San Simeon and Cambria - to the dramatic presence of Morro Rock at Morro Bay and Cayucos to the white sands of the southern beaches of Oceano, Grover Beach, and Pismo Beach. With 10 pristine beaches, California’s Central Coast is a paradise for surfing, kayaking, swimming, leisurely walks, watching sunsets, beach combing, fishing and soaking up rays.

Pismo Beach. "Clam Capital of the World," Pismo Beach preserves the spirit of California with 23 miles of unspoiled sandy beaches, rugged coastlines, and a 1,200 foot fishing pier. Explore pebbled coves and tide pools beneath rocky bluffs, horseback along the surf, or kayak on Pacific waves. The white, sandy beach is a peaceful landscape for surfing, kite flying, beach combing and building sand castles. Check out thousands of regal Monarch butterflies - October through February - in the eucalyptus grove at the Pismo Beach State Park. Pismo Beach offers many annual festivals, including the annual Clam Festival, Mardi Gras Jazz Festival, and Independence Day Fireworks.  [Top]

Grover Beach. At Grover Beach, you’ll experience true coastal adventure, including dune hiking, fishing, clamming, golfing, horseback riding, wine tasting and ATVing. Grover Beach offers many family activities, festivals, and parks. At Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area you can ride all-terrain vehicles, go four-wheeling on the endless dunes or drive on the coastline for miles. The annual Stone Soup Ethnic Music Faire at Ramona Garden Park features the Dune Run Run, food and craft booths, and a variety of great music.  [Top]

Cambria. The charming beach village of Cambria, where pines meet the sea, boasts a vibrant artist community, impressive art galleries, restaurants, specialty shops, and beautiful ocean views. Towering Monterey pines frame the coastline along Moonstone Beach Drive, where agate and jasper stones can be found in the sand.   [Top]

Morro Bay Beach. Morro Bay Beach offers an abundance of activities including kayaking, scuba diving, surfing, fishing and bird watching. Morro Rock, Morro Bay's sentinel, is a volcanic peak over 21 million years old. This 576-foot-high dome-shaped formation serves as a preserve for the endangered peregrine falcons that nest on top. A bird sanctuary, Morro Bay provides a nourishing habitat to 250 species.  [Top]

Avila Beach. Nestled in the southern part of the County, Avila Beach is a sun-drenched community that is popular for sun worshiping, whale watching, sightseeing, pier strolling, and deep-sea fishing. Experience a rejuvenating soak in the natural mineral spring baths in redwood tubs along the tree-covered hillside. San Simeon and Ragged Point Beaches. The dramatic coastline along Highway 1 in northern San Luis Obispo County is one of the most scenic drives in the world. Towering above crashing waves, Ragged Point is a spectacular overlook near Big Sur with picturesque ocean vistas. Watch the elephant seals that migrate along the north coast shoreline during the winter months, joined by sea lions and sea otters. Sebastian's General Store (1852) in the town of San Simeon is a state historical landmark at the base of Hearst Castle which sits on top of the hillside. From San Simeon Pier, a popular sport fishing locale, you can access a beautiful white crescent beach sweeping around to San Simeon Point.  [Top]

Cayucos Beach. A haven for surfers and fishing enthusiasts, the long, white sandy Cayucos Beach is home to the Cayucos pier built in 1875. The beautiful beach is the perfect spot for sea kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding, and swimming. Fish off the pier, explore the tidepools, or just relax on the tranquil beach. Along its historic Main Street, you’ll discover antique shops, restaurant, taverns, and several antique and collectable street fairs throughout the year.  [Top]
